The chocolate brownie, also refered to as a Boston brownie or a brownie, is a little, chocolate cake, kind of like a cookie, named after its color. Brownies comes in all kinds of sizes and shapes and sometimes glazed with fudge and often containing nuts, chips, peanut butter etc.
According to Wikipedia the first known mention of a Brownie was believed to be in a Sears and Roebuck catalog way back in 1897. The Brownie seems to be discovered by accident, someone tried to bake a chocolate cake and forgot to add baking powder and there it was "The Brownie" Brownies are simple to bake and is often used as an example recipe for novice chefs and bakers. Chocolate Brownies are known all over the world but most popular in America.
Ice cream goes perfect with a hot brownie and when it is served in that way it is refered to as "brownie ŕ la mode" Brownies and whipped cream is another favourite for many people and also served in restaurants all over the world.
Brownies first became popular in the United States but as with all things going big in the U.S it also has lately become popular in Europe and is now a regular dessert you see in many cafe´s and restaurants.
If it does not contain cocoa they are refered to as Blondies..
Blondies are often made with brown sugar and white chocolate chips or nuts etc..
